ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's wrestling team dropped their opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual of the season to the visiting squad from The University of Olivet by the score of 32-8.

The Comets took the opening match with a tech fall at the 4:57 mark, taking an early 5-0 lead. The Thunder immediately responded when Joseph Langeman recorded a textbook tech fall of his own. He put on a 16-0 clinical victory in just over three minutes of match time.

The next three matches went to Olivet, but all by just decisions, making the score 14-5. Philip Burney in the 157 match, was able to battle his way out of surrendering bonus points with a late takedown.

The second win of the night for Trine came in the 165 match, where Lakin Webb held out for a narrow 7-6 decision, earning three more points for the team and making the score 14-8 at the time.

The rest of the dual went to Olivet, with the visiting team picking up two more decisions, a injury default and a pin to make the final score 32-8.

The Thunder fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in MIAA competition. They will next take the mats when they travel to their second MIAA contest of the season on Thursday, February 1. The match against Alma College is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
