GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.-- The Trine women's soccer team shut out Calvin, 1-0, Thursday afternoon at Zuidema Field to give the Thunder their best start since 2003.

The win moved Trine to 4-1 on the season, marking the team's best start since the 2003 squad win four-straight on their way to a 4-1 start. The Thunder are off to their first 2-0 start since joining the MIAA, and their best start since joining NCAA Division III in 2004. Freshman Sydney Reichenbaugh (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) scored the lone goal of the match. Skyler Reed (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) earned her third-consecutive shutout in net. The defending-MIAA champion Knights fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play with the loss. Prior to this afternoon's contest, Trine had never defeated Calvin in women's soccer.

Reichenbaugh scored on a long volley lofted over the head of the keeper at the 25:14 mark of the match. The goal was the first of Reichenbaugh's collegiate career. She became the latest newcomer to make an impact offensively for the Thunder, as three of Trine's game-winners this season have been scored by freshmen.

Reed made that goal stand up, with her third-consecutive shutout backing a solid defensive effort. The junior made seven saves to bring her MIAA-leading save percentage to a stingy .895 mark. Reed was especially solid with the game on the line, making four saves in the final 10 minutes of play.

Trine has now shut out three-consecutive opponents for the first-time since 2003. The Thunder were outshot 13-5, but continue to find ways to win despite being outshot in each game during their three-match winning-streak.

Jenna Shelton made one save for the Knights in relief of starting keeper Emily Lawson, who did not make a save in her 45:00 of action.

Trine has a quick turnaround, as they will host Hope this Saturday, Sep. 13 at 12:00 p.m. at Weaver Field.
