Thunder Fall at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MICH.-- The Trine women's soccer team was defeated by Kalamazoo, 2-0, in MIAA-action Wednesday night at MacKenzie Field.

Madison Moote and Paige Sambor each scored goals for the Hornets. Katie Sorensen picked up the assists on both tallies. Lucy Mailing made two saves to earn her MIAA-leading seventh shutout of the season. Mailing also leads the conference in save percentage and goals-against average to anchor the top defense in the conference. Trine falls to 4-7-1 overall, 2-6-1 in the conference matches. Kalamazoo improved to 8-3-1 overall, 5-3-1 in league matches.

Both goals came on headers off corner kicks. Moote's goal got the Hornets on the board 3:57 into the first half. Sambor's header gave Kalamazoo an insurance goal with just over six-minutes remaining in the contest.

Skyler Reed (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) made seven saves in net for the Thunder. Trine was outshot by a 26 to 5 margin.

The Thunder return to action Saturday, Oct. 11 when they host Calvin at noon at Weaver Field.
