Thunder Drop Tight Contest at Illinois Tech

CHICAGO, Ill.-- A second half goal proved to be the difference as the Trine women's soccer team fell to Illinois Institute of Technology, 1-0 Friday night at Stuart Field.

Sarah Maciorowski scored an unassisted goal at the 61:05 mark of the contest to provide the only scoring of the contest. The Thunder outshot the Scarlet Hawks by a 15-8 margin, but IIT goalkeeper Roxanne Myers turned aside all eight shots on goal to earn the shutout. Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) made three saves in goal for Trine. The Thunder fall to 1-1 on the season, while Illinois Tech evened its record at 1-1.

Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) got off three shots on goal for Trine, while Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) helped provide pressure with two shots on net.

The Scarlet Hawks held an 8-4 advantage in creating corner kick opportunities. The Thunder were whistled for seven fouls to two for IIT.

Trine returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 9 with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener at Calvin. Match time is slated for 4 p.m.
