Women's Soccer Falls at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich.-- The Trine women's soccer team was defeated by Kalamazoo, 3-0 in MIAA-action Saturday afternoon at MacKenzie Field.

Katie Sorensen scored a goal and added an assist to pace the Hornet attack. Sydney Spring and Madison Moote also scored for Kalamazoo. Grace Smith earned the shutout with three saves. Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) made nine saves in net for the Thunder. Trine falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo improved to 2-4 overall, 2-1 in conference matches.

Sorensen and Spring scored in the first half to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead. Both goals were unassisted. Sorensen connected with Moote for the final goal of the match in the second half.

Kalamazoo held a 22-6 edge in shots on goal. Shannon Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) led the Thunder in that category, getting off a pair of shots.

Trine returns to action Monday, Sept. 14 when they host Hope at 4 p.m. at Weaver Field.
