SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Four unanswered goals led Saint Mary's to a 4-1 victory over the Trine women's soccer team Thursday afternoon at Jr. Irish Field.
After the Thunder scored the first goal of the match just over 10 minutes in, the Belles scored four-straight to claim the victory. Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) scored Trine's goal. Emily Rompola scored twice for SMC, while Rachel Moore added two assists for a multi-point afternoon. Liza Felix and Kate Vasile added goals for the Belles. Trine fell to 1-5 overall, 0-4 in the MIAA. Saint Mary's improved to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference matches.
Jarratt got the Thunder on the board at the 10:16 mark with her first goal of the season. The sophomore scored after beating a defender. The goal was the second of her Trine career.
Felix knotted the score at the 26:11 mark. The two teams would head to the half tied at 1-1.
The game would stay that way until the Belles scored three times in the final 15 minutes. Rompola scored what would prove to be the game-winner on a header off a corner kick with 14:21 to play. Rompola's second goal at the 83:58 mark of the contest made the score 3-1.
Vasile scored her goal with 11 seconds remaining for the final margin. Rachel McCarthy made five saves in net to earn the victory.
Trine will host Albion in MIAA-action this Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
