First Half Goals lead Olivet past Trine

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's soccer team was unable to overcome two first half goals as the Thunder fell to Olivet, 2-0 in MIAA-action Wednesday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Isabelle Leon and Megan Peplinski each scored first half goals for the Comets. Emma Essen added an assist. Deanna Zolnoski earned the shutout in net with two saves. Trine fell to 1-7 overall and 0-6 in the MIAA. Olivet improved to 6-2 overall, 3-2 in conference play.

Leon got the Comets on the board at the 18:25 mark of the contest. Leon took a pass on a give-and-go and beat a defender to score her sixth goal of the season.

Peplinski's goal came off a turnover, She weaved her way through the Trine defense and knocked a shot in off the post for her first goal of the year.

Olivet outshot the Thunder by a 16-8 margin. Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) made three saves for Trine before giving way to Audrey Poteet (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis), who made five saves.

The Thunder return to action Saturday, Sept. 26 at Adrian. Match time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
