Veljovic named conference Goalie of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Kristina Veljovic has been named MIAA Women's Soccer Goalie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) made 12 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to Alma last week. Among her several diving saves was a sprawling, one-handed stop with under a minute to play in regulation. The performance gave the sophomore back-to-back efforts with 10 or more saves. This is the first time Veljovic is being honored as a conference player of the week in her career.

Veljovic has solidified the goalkeeper position for the Thunder after seizing the starting role at the beginning of the season. She is tied for the conference lead with 56 saves and boasts an .812 save percentage that ranks third in the league. Veljovic leads the MIAA in saves in conference play, with 51 of those saves coming in league action.

Trine concluded the first half of the MIAA slate with an 0-7-1 mark in league action. The Thunder are 1-8-1 overall.

The team returns to action this Wednesday, Oct. 7 when they host conference-foe Calvin at 4 p.m. at Weaver Field.
