Knights Break Through in Second Half to Defeat Trine

ANGOLA, Ind.-- Calvin scored three second half goals to earn a 3-0 victory over Trine in MIAA-action Wednesday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Paige Capel scored twice off passes from Taylor Ten Harmsel and Bekah Maguire later added a goal off a pass from Carly Veenstra. Holly Ellerbroke earned the shutout in net for the Knights. Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) stopped six shots in net for the Thunder. Trine fell to 1-9-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the MIAA. Calvin improved to 10-2-1 overall, 8-0-1 in conference matches.

Capel was able to score off a pair of breakaways on play-throughs from Ten Harmsel. Capel now has seven goals on the season. The first of those tallies came 14:49 into the second half, with the second coming at the 77:45 mark of the match.

The final goal of the match came just 19 seconds after Capel's second tally, as Maguire scored off a play-through from Veenstra.

Trine will play its final of three-consecutive home matches this Saturday, Oct. 10 as the Thunder host Kalamazoo at 2:30 p.m.
