Thunder Stung by Hornets for Overtime Loss

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's soccer team pushed Kalamazoo to overtime but were defeated by the Hornets, 2-1 in MIAA-action Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Skyler Reed's (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) second half goal knotted up the score to send the game to overtime, but Christina Dander scored on a header in OT to give Kalamazoo the win. Madison Moote also scored for the Hornets. Trine fell to 1-10-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo improved to 6-6-1 overall, 6-3-1 in conference matches.

Moote scored off a steal just 39 seconds into the match to get the Hornets on the board. The goal was Moote's sixth of the season.

The score would remain that way until Reed cashed in on a rebound 11:11 into the second half. The goal was the senior's second of the season and 11th of her career. Reed's 11 career goals are now tied for second at Trine in the Division III era (2004-present), while her 25 career points are tied for third during that span.

Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) made a career-high 15 saves to help keep the game knotted and force the overtime stanza. Veljovic has made 10 or more saves in three of the last four matches.

Dander skied high for a header off a Sarah George free kick from the corner to score the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining in the first overtime. The goal was Dander's second of the season.
