Seniors Pace Victory in Final Home Match

Angola, Ind. – The Trine women's soccer team defeated Adrian, 2-1 in MIAA-action Tuesday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Skyler Reed (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) scored in the first three minutes of the second half to give the Thunder the 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. The goal was assisted by Jamie McCarrell (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson). Later in the second half McCarrell scored another goal to give Trine a 2-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Reed. Sofia Farah scored a goal off a penalty kick with three minutes of play for the final margin. Trine improves to 2-14-1 overall and 1-13-1 in conference matches. Adrian fell to 3-9-6 overall and to 1-9-4 in MIAA play.

The first half ended in a stalemate between the Thunder and the Bulldogs. Trine outshot Adrian by one, with a margin of 7-6.

Reed scored a diving header to give Trine the lead early in the second half.  It was her fourth goal on the season, and the 13th of her career at Trine. McCarrell picked up her second assist of the season with a long and accurate cross in from the right wing.

At the 16:26 mark of the second half the scoring roles reversed for Trine with McCarrell picking up her first goal of the season. McCarrell notched her first career game with a goal and an assist. Reed picked up her first assist of the season on the goal.

Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) had three saves in the match. Veljovic is currently leading the MIAA conference in saves with 117 on the season.

Trine recognized its senior class as they played in their final home game of their soccer careers; Reed, McCarrell, Kayla Case (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet), and Kassi Ellsworth (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston). Trine also recognized their senior student manager, Lindsey Hoffman (Millbury, Ohio / Lake).

Trine outshot Adrian by a 20-12 margin.

The Thunder return to action for their last game of the season this Saturday Oct. 31, when they travel to Alma for a noon game.
