Thunder, Scarlet Hawks Battle to Draw

Angola, Ind. – The Trine women's soccer team battled Illinois Tech to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field. Trine advances its record to 0-0-2 overall and Illinois Tech's record goes to 0-1-1.

The first half was a scoreless battle between the teams. Trine had two scoring opportunities on Illinois Tech, but the Scarlet Hawks goalie, Jessica Park, was able to come up with the saves to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0. 

The second half was a battle between the two teams but remained scoreless, forcing the two teams into two overtimes.

Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) had three saves in the match. Veljovic recorded her fourth career shutout and second this season. She has recorded a 256:20 scoreless streak and has not allowed a goal since last season.

Trine outshot Illinois Tech by a 22-14 margin. Trine had the advantage in generating corner kicks over Illinois Tech, leading them 10-2.

The Thunder return to action for their MIAA opener game of the season this Wednesday Sept. 7, when they host Calvin for an afternoon game. The match starts at 4 p.m.
