Angola, Ind. – The Trine women's soccer team defeated by No. 11 Calvin Wednesday afternoon at Weaver Field. Trine advances its record to 0-1 in MIAA play and 0-1-2 overall. Calvin's record goes to 1-0 in MIAA play and 1-1 overall.
The Knights struck first in the match with Brianna Russell scoring midway through the first half. Whitney Koets added another goal for Calvin with five minutes remaining in the half.
Trine answered back with a goal coming from Mackenzie Hoffman (Jamestown, Ind. / Western Boone). She had a break away for a one-on-one with the goalie and beat the goalkeeper low to the left corner. It was Hoffman's first goal of her career. Carly Osinski (Noblesville, Ind. / Guerin Catholic) assisted on the goal.
In the second half Brianna Russell and Allie Corp scored for the Knights. Russell had a hat-trick on the day. Osinski was able to score her first goal of the season off a penalty kick midway through the second half.
The Thunder return to action for an MIAA game this Saturday Sept. 10, when they host Kalamazoo. The match starts at noon.
