Sanderson Tallies Two Goals, but Thunder Fall to Kalamazoo

Angola, Ind. – The Trine women's soccer team was defeated by Kalamazoo 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.

The Hornets struck first in the match with Rosella LoChirco scoring in the first ten minutes of the first half. Trine answered back with a goal coming from Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) to tie it back up. Minutes later, she scored her second goal of the game to enable the Thunder to take the lead.

The Hornets scored four unanswered goals the rest of the way to earn the victory. In the closing minutes of the first half Kalamazoo was able to take the lead back going into the second half with goals coming from Julie Zabik and Paige Sambor.

In the second half the Hornets were able to increase its lead with goals coming from Libby Munoz and Sarah George.

Sanderson recorded her first two goals in her first collegiate career. Madison Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) picked up the assist on her sister's first goal off a well-executed throw in. Kristen Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) picked up the assist on the second goal.

Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) had a career high in saves with 17.

Trine's record goes to 0-2 in MIAA play and 0-2-2 overall. Kalamazoo's record improves to 1-0-1 in MIAA play and 2-2-1 overall.

The Thunder return to action for another MIAA game when they travel to Hope Monday Sept. 12 for a night game. The match starts at 6:30 p.m.
