Trine Shuts Out Saint Mary's for First Victory

Angola, Ind. – The Trine women's soccer team shut out MIAA-foe Saint Mary's 2-0 Thursday afternoon at Weaver Field.

Trine was in control throughout, outshooting Saint Mary's 21 to six, and kicking eight corners to the Belles' one. The Thunder got on the board in the first half when Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) stole the ball and buried a hooking shot from about 25 yards out. Jarratt's goal was her first of the season.

The next Trine goal came early in the second half, when Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) stole the ball off a throw-in near the Saint Mary goal and beat the keeper low in the right corner of the net. Sanderson leads the Thunder with three goals on the year.

Kristen Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) paced the Thunder with five shots, while Sanderson and Marisa Robinett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) each had three. Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) made five saves on the way to her fifth career shutout, and third of the season.

Mary Wandor and Liza Felix each had two shots for the Belles. Thallia Robles saved seven out of nine shots in goal.

Trine got their first win of the season, improving to 1-3-2 (1-3-0 MIAA) on the season. Saint Mary's fell to 1-5-0 (0-4-0 MIAA) on the season.

The Thunder women return to action Saturday, September 17, at Albion. The match is slated to start at Noon. Their next home match is against Adrian the next Saturday, also at Noon.
