Thunder Blank Britons in Road Victory

ALBION, Mich.-- The Trine women's soccer team shut out Albion 1-0 in MIAA-action Saturday afternoon at Davis Complex.

An early goal by Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) provided all the offense the Thunder would need as the efforts of Trine's defense and goalie Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) were enough to keep the Britons off the board the rest of the day. The victory gave the Thunder two consecutive wins in MIAA play. Trine improved to 2-3-3 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. Albion fell to 2-4-1 overall, 1-4 in conference action.

Sanderson scored just seven minutes into the contest to provide all the offense the Thunder would lead. Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) picked up the assist as Sanderson made a one-on-one play to give Trine the early lead. Sanderson has a team-leading four goals this season.

Veljovic made 10 saves to pick up her second-straight shutout victory. The junior has notched four shutouts this season, tied for the most by any Trine keeper in a single season since the Thunder joined the MIAA in 2004. Veljovic's shutout was the sixth of her career. She leads the MIAA in shutouts and save percentage.

Megan Bricely made two saves in net for Albion. The Britons got off 12 shots on goal and took 21 shots overall to Trine's six, but the work of Veljovic kept Albion off the board.

Trine returns to action Tuesday, Sep. 20 in a 4 p.m. match at Olivet.
