Late Goal Lifts Hope Over Thunder

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's soccer team battled Hope tough, but a goal in the closing minutes lifted the Dutch to a 4-3 victory over the Thunder Wednesday evening at Weaver Field.

Elizabeth Perkins notched the hat-trick with her final tally of the contest as she scored on a header in the 86th-minute. The goal gave Hope its first lead of the contest. Marisa Robinett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) and Carly Osinski (Noblesville, Ind. / Guerin Catholic tallied a goal and an assist for the Thunder, while Kristen Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) added a goal as well. Trine fell to 2-9-2 overall, 2-9 in the MIAA. The Flying Dutch improved to 9-2-2 overall, 8-1-2 in conference play.

Trine made the first move when Osinski score a goal off a penalty kick in the opening minutes of the match. The goal was the junior's second converted penalty shot of the season. Osinski has set career highs with two goals and four assists this season.

The Thunder put Hope in a two-goal deficit when a give-and-go from Robinett to Reece allowed Reece to beat Hope's goalkeeper with a shot. Reece tallied her second goal of the season. Robinett's assist was the first of her career.

The Dutch answered back with two goals of their own. Perkins scored her first goal off on one an assist coming from Hilary Curry. Perkins scored Hope's second goal of the half on a header off a cross coming from Grace Bubin. The two teams went into the half tied at 2-2.

Ten minutes into the second half Robinett put the Thunder up, 3-2 as she punched in a corner kick from Osinski. Robinett's goal was the first of her career at Trine.

Minutes later the Flying Dutch answer back with a goal of their own to tie the match back up at three apiece. Erin Brophy scored the goal from the wing with the assist coming from Natalie Curry.

Perkins' final tally came as she redirected a header off a pass from Allie Wittenbach. The goal came with just 3:55 remaining. Perkins' 17 goals lead the MIAA.

Trine returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15 at Saint Mary's. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
