Women's Soccer Shuts Out Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Trine women's soccer team claimed a decisive 4-0 victory over Saint Mary's in MIAA action Saturday afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Fields.

All four Thunder goals were contributed by freshmen. Marisa Robinett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) had a career-best match, notching the first two-goal effort of her career and adding an assist. Robinett's five-point effort was the first on record by a Trine player since the school joined the MIAA in 2004. The Thunder improved to 3-9-2 overall, 3-9 in conference play. The Belles fell to 1-13 overall and 0-12 in conference matches.

Kristen Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) got Trine on the board first with a goal 20 minutes into the contest. The freshman won the ball off a punt by the goalkeeper, advanced with two touches and fired into an open net for her second goal in as many matches.

Robinett notched the first of her two goals six minutes later. Carly Osinski (Noblesville, Ind. / Guerin Catholic) fed a cross into the box for Robinett, who scored off a header from 10 yards out to make the score 2-0. Osinski's assist was her fifth of the season, tied for the most in a season by a Trine player since the Thunder joined the MIAA.

Six minutes later, Robinett struck again for a three-goal Trine advantage. This time, Cassidy Small (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) dropped off a pass for a one-timer by Robinett from 20 yards out. Robinett's performance gave her three goals in the last two matches. Small picked up her first career assist.

The Thunder would tack on another goal in the second half on a tally by Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo). Robinett sent a long pass from the right side for Sanderson in open space, who was able to beat the keeper with her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) made two saves to earn the shutout in net for Trine.

The Thunder return to action Tuesday, Oct. 18 with a home contest against Albion. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
