ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's soccer team used a scoring outburst to down Olivet, 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Weaver Field.
The Thunder scored a season high of four goals with tallies coming from Marisa Robinett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb), Kristen Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli), Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) and Carly Osinski (Noblesville, Ind. / Guerin Catholic). Sanderson, Robinett and Reece each added an assist for a three-point afternoon. Trine improves to 4-10-2 overall, 4-10 in the MIAA. Olivet drops to 8-6-1 overall, 6-5-1 in conference play.
Trine got on the scoreboard first when Robinett scored a goal off rebound from the goalie earlier in the first half. Sanderson was credited with the assist.
The Thunder put the Comets in a two-goal deficit when Robinett was able to connect with Reece on the long service pass. Reece beat the goalie one-on-one to put Trine up two.
Trine added to its lead in the second half early on when Sanderson scored a goal coming off a rebound from the crossbar. Reece had the assist on the goal. Sanderson's goal is her sixth of the season, and is the most by a freshman since Trine joined the MIAA in 2004
Midway through the second half Osinski notched Trine's final goal when she scored off a penalty kick. Osinski's goal was her third off a penalty kick this season. She now holds the school record for penalty kick goals.
Olivet tried to rally back but was unable to break get any closer than two. Olivet had two goals in second half. Isabelle Leon scored the first with the assist coming from Emily Reinecke. The second goal came from Sarah Feldpausch unassisted.
Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso) earned the win in goal today with four saves. Veljovic becomes the first goalie to have more than 300 career saves since Trine joined the MIAA.
Trine returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Adrian for a night game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
