Thunder Drop Season Finale to Alma

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's soccer team lost to Alma 2-1 in the final game of their season Saturday at Weaver Field.

The Thunder got on the board first when Morgan Sanderson (Leo, Ind. / Leo) scored off a long run in the 24th-minute. It was her seventh goal of the season, tying her for the most by a Trine player since the school joined the MIAA in 2004. Sanderson's seven goals are the most scored by a Thunder freshman during that time frame.

Alma answered late in the first half when Macayla Greiner scored off a Taylor Roberts pass in front of the net. The deciding score occurred in the 59th-minute, when Whitnee Foote scored off of her own rebound.

The Scots outshot the Thunder 17-10, and also had four corner kicks to Trine's two. Khrystyna Thompson (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Lakewood Park Christian) got the start in goal for Trine, registering seven saves. Kelsey Postema (8-5-4) guarded the goal for Alma, also stopping seven shots.

Marissa Robinett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) led the Thunder with three shots. Sanderson and Kristen Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) added two shots apiece, and Carly Osinski (Noblesville, Ind. / Guerin Catholic), Gigi Jarratt (Valparaiso, Ind. / Valparaiso), and Mackenzie Hoffman (Jamestown, Ind. / Western Boone) each chipped in one shot.

Foote and Jessica Burg paced the Scots with four shots apiece. Greiner, Lexi Moyer, Kayla Linstruth, and Ashley Bonam all had two shots, and Roberts contributed one.

Trine ends the season with a 4-12-2 record (4-12 MIAA). The four MIAA wins represent a program-best for the Thunder since joining the conference. Alma finishes with an 8-5-4 record (7-4-4 MIAA).
