Thunder Improve to 2-0 with Win in Chicago

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Trine women's soccer team won a defensive struggle against Illinois Tech with by the score of 1-0.

The lone goal of the game would come in the 14th minute of the game when freshman Kennedy Brough (Wayne/Bishop Leurs) crossed the ball from the right side into the box and senior captain Erica Hoot (Fort Wayne/Carroll) put it past the goalkeeper. The goal is the first for Hoot this season.

For the rest of the game the Thunder would play stringent defense keeping all the pressure off of senior goalie Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso/Valparaiso) who was only called upon to make one save. The lone shot on goal for the Scarlet Hawks came from junior Kristen Robinson (Newcastle, Calif./Del Oro) in the 85th minute of the game.

On the other end of the pitch, Trine continued to pressure the Illinois Tech defense racking up eight total shots on goal. Sophomore Kristen Reece (Indianapolis/Roncalli) led the Thunder forcing the opposition's goalkeeper to make four saves to keep her off the scoreboard.

With the win Trine improves to 2-0, the best start to the season since 2003, when the team started with four straight wins.

The Thunder will look to continue their winning ways at home on Tuesday, September 5, at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Earlham College.
