Thunder Shut Out Ravens to Start Season Historic 4-0

ANDERSON, IND. -- The Trine women's soccer team defeated Anderson (Ind.) University by the score of 1-0.

With the victory, the Thunder improve to 4-0 to start the season which ties the most wins to start a season on record for a women's soccer team at Trine. The current team joins the University's 2003 squad who went on to finish the season with an 8-9-3 record.

The Thunder struck first and struck early. In just the second minute of the game, sophomore Morgan Sanderson  (Leo) scored her team leading fifth goal of the season.

Despite the exciting start, the goal would prove to be the lone score of the evening as both teams settled into their respective defensive rhythms. Trine's defensive effort was led by senior goalkeeper Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso/Valparaiso) who made eight saves in the game. With the shutout, all opposing teams remain scoreless against Veljovic on the season.

The Thunder will look to continue their winning streak, and become sole owner of the record for most wins to start a season, on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. The match, which will take place under the lights in Zollner Stadium, is the conference opener and will see Trine face off against Albion College.
