Thunder Fall in Double Overtime

ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine women's soccer team fell to Kalamazoo College 1-0 in double overtime today.

Despite giving up the lone goal, senior goalkeeper Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso/Valparaiso) played spectacularly making 11 saves on the day. In just the 20th minute of the game, Veljovic was forced to fend off a penalty kick awarded to Kalamazoo. She made a diving save and was able to cover up the ball to stop any further attempts.

Trine's best chance to get on the board was produced by sophomore Morgan Sanderson (Leo/Leo) when she powered her way through two defenders and put a shot just over the top of the goal.

Near the end of the second half, Veljovic kept the Thunder alive, jumping up and to her right to keep a sizzling attempt, from just outside the box, out of the net.

The game-winning shot came exactly one minute into the second overtime of the match when Julie Zabik went around a defender and finally found the back of the net, ending the game in the Hornets' favor.

Trine next competes at home on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Calvin College.
