Late Goal Hands Trine Loss Against Olivet

ANGOLA, IND.  --  The Trine University women's soccer team battled Olivet (Mich.) College to a 1-1 tie until late in the game when the Comets posted a goal during the 78th minute to grab a 2-1 win in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Weaver Soccer Field in Angola, Ind.

Trine (5-10, 1-10 MIAA) got on the board early with a goal that came on a free kick by sophomore Marisa Robinett (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and sailed just out of the reach of the Olivet netminder, giving the Thunder an early 1-0 lead at the 3:58 mark.

Almost 10 minutes later, Olivet (10-5, 8-4 MIAA) answered the Robinett goal during the 14th minute to even the game at 1-1.  Both teams recorded scoring chances in the remaining minutes of the opening period, but neither team could tally the go-ahead score as both squads headed into halftime tied at 1-1.

The game remained deadlocked at a goal apiece until the 77:31 mark when the same duo that combined on the Comets' first goal, struck again to put Olivet ahead, 2-1.  The Thunder tallied a pair of shot attempts in the final minutes of the contest following the Olivet score, but both shots missed the mark allowing the Comets to hang on for the 2-1 win.

Senior netminder Kristina Veljovic (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) played the entire game for Trine and allowed the two goals, while making nine saves.

Trine continues its season on Wednesday, Oct. 18 when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on Kalamazoo College in a MIAA game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
