Women's Soccer Starts Season with Win

RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team came away with an opening day victory, defeating Earlham College by 2-0.

The game started with both teams trading shots mostly evenly through the majority of the first half. In the 43rd minute of the period the Thunder broke the stalemate with their first goal of the season. Junior Kristen Reece (Indianapolis / Roncalli) scored the goal in unassisted fashion.

Trine held on to the 1-0 lead for the last minute of the first half and entered halftime with the lead.

The Thunder came out shooting in the second half, applying pressure through the first ten minutes of the period. The pressure paid off in the 55th minute of contest. Junior Marisa Robinett (Auburn / DeKalb) started the play by taking a corner kick attempt for Trine. She executed well coming away with an assist on the goal. Freshman Kayla Dennewitz (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) finished off the set piece coming away with the first goal of her career to give the Thunder the final 2-0 lead.

Trine held continued to pressure the Earlham through the rest of the game finishing off with nine more shots than the opposition. Freshman Jillian Rejczyk (Wauconda, Ill. / Wauconda) played the whole game in net for the Thunder finishing the contest with five saves.

Trine will take the pitch again tomorrow, September 2 when they travel to face Indiana University East at 1 p.m.
