Women's Soccer Shuts Out Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- For the second time this season the Trine University women's soccer team shut out the opposition defeating Manchester University by the score of 4-0.

The shutout was a team defensive effort as the team held the Spartans to just a single shot on goal. Just as much a team effort was the offensive one of the Thunder who wracked up a staggering 24 shots in the contest with 16 of them coming on goal.

The Thunder started the scoring in just the 22nd minute of the contest. Freshman Hayley Waltz (Rawson, Ohio / Cory-Rawson) scored the goal, her first of the season, with an assist credited to junior Morgan Sanderson (Leo / Leo).

The goal would be the lone one of the first half with Trine taking a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The Thunder would come out of the locker room firing on all cylinders, tallying three goals in the first 15 minutes of the half.

The first goal came from junior Marisa Robinett (Auburn / DeKalb) in the sixth minute of the half. The unassisted goal was her first of the season. Trines third goal was credited as an own goal against Manchester.

The final goal of the contest came in the 59th minute of the contest when sophomore Courtney Reece (Indianapolis / Roncalli) came away with her first goal of the season. The goal gave the Thunder the final 4-0 lead which they would preserve through the end of the contest.

Following the victory Trine improves their record to 2-2 on the season. The Thunder will open the home portion of their schedule with their next contest when they take on Defiance College on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
