Thunder Downed by Bulldogs

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team was defeated by visiting Adrian College by the score of 5-1.

The Bulldogs wasted little time getting onto the board coming away with a goal just shy of the eight-minute mark. They would never look back scoring two more goals in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the intermission.

The Thunder scored their lone goal in the 69th minute of the contest. Trailing 4-0, Trine drew the penalty inside the box and were awarded a penalty kick. Junior Marisa Robinett (Auburn / DeKalb) took the shot for the Thunder and buried it in the lower left corner of the goal.

Trine looked to be building momentum following the goal, putting a heavy offensive push on for the next five minutes. The highlight came when junior Morgan Sanderson (Leo / Leo) got behind the defense and put a shot on goal that forced a charging Adrian keeper to make a diving save. The Thunder had a chance again on the rebound but the Bulldog defense closed in and cleared the threat.

Adrian scored their final goal in the 88th minute to take the final 5-1 lead.

Trine drops to 4-11-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) following the loss. They will finish their season by traveling to face St. Mary's on Tuesday, October 23. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
