ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University has named Gary Boughton as the next head coach its women's soccer team, the school announced today.
Boughton comes to Trine after serving as the head coach of SUNY Erie College in Williamsville, N.Y. While there Boughton turned the program into a perennial regional and national power in Division III of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). In the past three seasons, the team reached regional finals three times, won regionals twice and was national runner-up in 2016. He leaves the school with an all-time program best career win percentage (.700).
"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Trine University Women's Soccer Program into its next era," said Boughton, "I'd like to thank Athletic Director Matt Land, President Brooks, and the entire Trine community for allowing me this privilege. The direction and vision of Trine is something I could not be more excited to be a part of."
Since 2017, Boughton has also served as head coach and general manager of Empire United WPSL. The team competes in the Women's Premier Soccer League, the top-ranked amateur women's soccer league in North America, and is comprised of top women's soccer players from around the country.

"He has shown tremendous ability to win at a high level. His lifelong experience and love of the game are sure to resonate with our student-athletes."
Boughton graduated from Medaille College with a degree in sports management in 2009. While there he played college soccer at NCAA DIII level. While playing he racked up NCAA DIII records in career assists (82) and career assists per game (.95) which he still holds to this day. He has also played on multiple professional teams over the past ten years.
