Women's Soccer Tripped Up by Britons

ALBION, Mich. – The Trine University women's soccer team forced overtime, but came up just short falling 2-1 to host Albion College in their second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest of the season.

The two teams traded opportunities through the first part of the contest, but both keepers held strong.

In the 32nd minute of the contest, the Britons finally broke the stalemate finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder didn't waste any time responding. Nearing the end of the 35th minute of the contest the team was awarded a corner kick which was taken by freshman Veronica Ocampo (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial). She placed it well and junior Courtney Reece (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) finished off the play to tie the game 1-1.

Trine held strong in the second half with both keepers coming up with saves as they held Albion off the board, but were unable to get offensive pressure on the other end. The teams would end regulation in a 1-1 tie.

The Britons came up with the game-winner in the fourth minute of the overtime period and came away with the 2-1 victory.

The Thunder fall to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA. The team will host Kalamazoo College in their third MIAA contest of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
