Women's Soccer Repel Late Charge from Warriors to Seal 4-3 Win

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team scored fended off a late surge from the visitors from Indiana Tech to finish off the day with a 4-3 victory.

The Warriors struck first in the contest, scoring a goal in the 20th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. The Thunder posted an emphatic response with three goals over the next 11 minutes of play.

The team's first goal came when freshman Olivia Argentieri (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) pushed a pass into the center of the box where junior Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) was waiting behind the defense to bury a goal in the net.

Schlueter would score again just a few minutes later, this time off of a corner from sophomore Veronica Ocampo (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial). Trine finished off the three-goal streak in the 35th minute of play, this time with Ocampo scoring from the top of the box.

The 3-1 lead would last into the intermission. 

The Thunder added to their lead in the 64th minute. This time sophomore Kayla Dennewitz (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) took the corner and placed into the scoring area where the opposition's goalkeeper was unable to handle it cleanly. Emerging from the ensuing scuffle was freshman Taylor Noll (Anna, Ohio / Anna) who pushed the ball over the line. the goal gave the Thunder a 4-1 lead.

In the final seven minutes of the contest, Trine was forced to hold off a surging Indiana Tech squad. The Warriors scored a goal in both the 84th and 86th minutes to pull back within one. Then in the 89th minute, junior Jessalyn Friederick (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) made a jumping save, one of seven total in the contest, to keep the Thunder on top.

The Team would hold on for the last 90 seconds of the game and left the pitch with the 4-3 win.

The Thunder improve to 4-1 following the win. They will next take the pitch on Saturday, October 3 when they travel to face Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. That match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
