Women's Soccer Defeats Pomeroys 3-0

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team defeated Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) by the score of 3-0.

Senior Logan Sagstetter (Leo, Ind. / Leo) opened the scoring for the Thunder in the 30th minute of the contest to take a 1-0 lead. The shot came under a minute after Sagstetter entered the game and was her second goal of the season.

The team added to their lead just over seven minutes later. This time junior Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) started off the play with a shot on goal of her own which resulted in a save that rebounded back into play. Sophomore Andrea Wright (Plainfield, Ind. / Plainfield) was waiting to take advantage and put the ball into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

The final Thunder goal didn't come until the second half in the 79th minute of the contest. Senior Alyssa Siracuse (Buffalo, N.Y. / Mount Mercy Academy) came up with the goal with a shot from ten feet away from the net. The goal is her first of the season.

Trine improves to 5-1 following the victory. They will next take the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 8 when they travel to face Huntington University for a 3 p.m. contest.
