Women's Soccer Stung by Hornets

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team came up short to visiting Kalamazoo College, dropping the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest 1-0.

The Thunder played scrappy defense throughout the first half as the Hornets put them to task with a host of offensive pressure. All told the opposition recorded nine shots in the half with seven of them coming on net. Junior keeper Jessalyn Friederick (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) held firm in net with the help of her defense and came away with all seven saves to hold keep the score 0-0 heading into halftime.

Trine made a goalkeeper switch at halftime but mostly came out with the same defensive strategy for the second half. A strong cross from the oppositions followed up by a lofted shot beat that defense and gave Kalamazoo the lone goal of the contest.

The Thunder pushed the ball offensively the rest of the contest in search of the equalizer. Their best chance came in the 60th minute of play when freshman Taylor Noll (Anna, Ohio / Anna) moved beyond the final defender into the penalty area and passed the ball off to junior Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) who fired a quick shot on goal. The Hornet keeper made a superb diving save to end the threat.

Trine falls to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in MIAA play following the loss. They will take the pitch again on Monday, April 12 when they travel to face Albion College for another MIAA contest. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
