ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team opened their season on a high note picking up a 1-0 victory over the visitors from Franklin College. The victory came off an early goal followed by a strong possessive performance.

After an early miss in the offensive end the Thunder made their second attempt on goal count. Freshman Teresa Ashbrook (Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt) received a pass just outside the penalty area, before weaving her way through multiple Grizzly defenders to have a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper. She picked up the first goal of her young career with a shot to the bottom right side of the goal.

Following the goal Trine kept their foot on the gas piling on eight more shots on goal and 13 total shots, many coming just shy of another goal.  Overall the Thunder dominated possession in the contest holding the ball over sixty percent of the game, most of it in their offensive zone.

Junior Carmen Sweigard (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) played the game in net for the team, but faced little opposition as the defense kept Franklin out of the zone. Her two saves both came late in the contest when the Grizzlies snuck into the penalty area.

The Thunder start the season 1-0. They will hit the road for a pair of games over the weekend. The first comes when they travel to face Spalding University on Saturday, Sept. 4. The game is set to kickoff at noon.
