Women's Soccer Storms Back Against Spartans

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Trine University women's soccer team avoided a scare and extended their unbeaten streak to nine by defeating Manchester University 2-1.

The Spartans struck first on their home turf by converting on a penalty kick in the 11th minute of play.

The Thunder responded resonantly to the goal defensively, keeping the opposition from recording another shot on goal in the contest and allowing just three shots total.

The team would then erase the home team's lead with an unassisted goal in the 29th minute of play. Freshman Mia Augustino (Niagara Falls, N.Y. / Niagara Falls) tallied the goal, her third of the season.

The first half would expire with the game still tied at one apiece.

Trine took their first and final lead of the contest in the 58th minute, when junior Olivia Butterworth (Murray, Ky. / Murray) set up freshman Bella Mabry (Oregon, Ohio / Clay). The goal was Mabry's third of the season and gave the team a 2-1 lead.

The team would continue to pressure the Spartan keeper throughout the rest of the contest but were unable to add to their lead.

The Thunder improve to 8-0-1 following the victory. They will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they host Earlham College for senior day action. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
