Women's Soccer Stung by Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Trine University women's soccer team scored first but their hosts from Kalamazoo College scored the final three goals of the game to hand the team a 3-1 loss.

After an even start to the contest, the Thunder pressed into the offensive end along the right side of the field. The charge seemed loss after a strong defensive play by the Hornets, but freshman Teresa Ashbrook (Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt) came up with a steal just outside of the penalty area. She quickly passed the ball along to the left to classmate Bella Mabry (Oregon, Ohio / Clay) who fired a shot back across the goal into the lower right corner of the goal.

It looked like the team would take the 1-0 lead into intermission but Kalamazoo came up with a pair of goals in the final ten minutes of the first half to instead send Trine to intermission down 2-1. The Hornets would then score another goal in the final ten minutes of the second half to finish the game with the 3-1 victory.

The Thunder fall to 3-3 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play and 12-3-1 overall following the loss. They will continue their season when they host Albion College for another MIAA contest on Saturday, Oct. 23.
