Thunder Hold Hoosiers to Five in Loss

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Trine University women's soccer team put forth a strong effort but were ultimately overpowered by their NCAA Division I hosts from Indiana University. The Hoosiers would ultimately send the Thunder home with a 5-0 loss.

The first shot of the game forced action from Trine's sophomore goalkeeper Sophie Aschemeier, which she did with a save.

Just after the four-minute mark had passed the Thunder would get a shot of their own. Sophomore Teresa Ashbrook put the shot toward the bottom right of the goal, but the opposition's keeper was able to come up with the save.

Indiana broke the early stalemate in the eighth minute of the contest. The goal ended up being the start of a run for the Hoosiers, who scored two more goals before the 18-minute mark of the contest, building a 3-0 lead.

The defense settled in following the third goal, holding the Hoosiers out of the net for the rest of the half. Aschemeier made three more saves during the stretch, ending the half with four.

In the final minutes of the half, sophomore Blair Wright got beyond the defense and fired the team's second shot on goal, forcing a second save.

The second half saw Indiana score two more goals to build their lead to 5-0. The Thunder defense stopped the bleeding there on the back of five more saves for Aschemeier giving her nine for the game.

Despite the defensive success, Trine was unable to find any more on the offensive end of the pitch. The team recorded two more shots in the half, but were unable to put either on net and the 5-0 score would go final.

The Thunder fall to 3-2 overall following the loss. They will return home for their next contest when they will host Wittenberg University. The contest is scheduled to kickoff at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.
