Women's Soccer Shuts Out Greenville

WHEATON, Ill. – The Trine University women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season in dominating fashion over Greenville University. The Thunder outshot the Panthers 20-0 on the way to a 3-0 shutout victory.

Trine wasted no time in taking the lead giving themselves a prime opportunity by forcing a corner kick. Sophomore Francesca Fronczak took the chance and placed it in position for a chance to score. Sophomore Andi Lipic scored from off the pass to give the team the 1-0 lead.

The team added to their lead in the 23rd minute. Freshman Samantha Sanderlin started the play with a shot that went wide of the mark but set up a second chance for the Thunder. Junior Bella Mabry took advantage of the chance scoring her first goal of the season and giving the team a 2-0 lead.

The team scored a third goal in the final minute of the half. Junior Hailey Jakubowski took a corner kick and placed it into the box to set up the score and earn an assist. Senior Megan Davis was in position to cash in scoring the goal.

All told the Thunder took 12 shots with seven coming on goal during the half. They would add eight more shots, with three on goal, in the second period, but would ultimately just cruise to the 3-0 victory. Mabry led the way with three shots including two that came on goal.

With the win Trine improves to 1-0-1 for the season. They will continue their season when they travel to face Otterbein University on Tuesday, September 5. That match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
