Women's Tennis Opens Spring Season with Win

ORLANDO, FLA.-- The Trine women's tennis team opened their spring season with 5-4 victory over King's College (Pa.) Sunday afternoon.

Trine got great performances from Alexis Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and Jessica Huhnke (Newburgh, Ind./Castle), who each earned points in both singles and doubles play. The Thunder jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Huhnke and Lauren Schlueter (Akron, Ohio/Revere) earned an 8-0 win at no. 1 doubles, while Mack and Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) picked up the 8-6 win at no. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Huhnke picked up the win in the no. 1 court in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Mack won her match at no. 4 singles 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) picked up the win in her collegiate debut at no. 6 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-2 to secure the win for Trine.

With the victory, the Thunder improve to 4-2 on the season. King's College falls to 2-3.

The Thunder return to action for two matches tomorrow. They will take on Cedarville at 10:30 a.m. before taking on Evangel at 5:30 p.m.
