Women's Tennis Opens Conference Play with Win

ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine women's tennis team opened MIAA-play with a convincing 7-2 victory over Alma Monday evening at Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.

Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) and Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) led the way for Trine, combining for a doubles win and picking up singles victories. The duo picked up a 8-3 victory in no. 2 doubles. Kwaske picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory in no. 2 singles, while Mack added a pair of wins in the no. 4 court.

Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) and Kaitlin Black (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) added an 8-4 win in the no. 3 doubles court to put Trine up 2-1 after doubles play.

Jessica Huhnke (Newburgh, Ind./Castle), Lauren Schlueter (Akron, Ohio/Revere) and Allison Marley (New Carlisle, Ind./New Prairie) all added wins in straight sets in singles play.

With the victory, Trine improves to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA. Alma falls to 2-7-3 overall, 0-1 in the league. The Thunder return to action Thursday, Mar. 27 when they host Spring Arbor in a non-conference match at 4:00 p.m.
