ROYAL, OAK, MICH.—Trine's Jessica Huhnke has been named MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Huhnke (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) won all three of her matches at no. 1 singles in straight sets last week. She posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory in her flight in helping lead the Thunder to a 7-2 victory over Alma in Trine's MIAA-opener. She also had wins over Spring Arbor, 6-0, 6-1, and Saint Mary's, 6-1, 6-0. Huhnke is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and third time in her career.
The senior is 2-0 in MIAA matches this season. Huhnke is 5-3 overall in singles matches this season, with all of those coming on the no. 1 court. She is a reigning First-Team All-MIAA performer after going 6-2 in conference singles matches last season.
Trine's women's tennis team holds an overall record of 5-7 this season. The Thunder are 1-1 in conference matches. The team returns to action Saturday, Apr. 5 when they travel to Bethel (Ind.) for a non-conference match at 11:00 a.m.
