Thunder Open With Loss at Grace

WINONA LAKE, IND.-- The Trine women's tennis team was defeated by Grace, 6-3, in the season-opener for the Thunder Thursday evening on the Miller Field Courts.

Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) each picked up victories in singles play for the Thunder. Mack split the first two sets and had to go to the tiebreak in the no. 3 court, where she prevailed 10-7 to take home the victory. German earned a hard-fought 8-7 victory in the first set, before earning a 6-1 victory to earn the win in the no. 4 court.

Trine had a pair of freshman combine for their first doubles victory in the no. 3 court. Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind.) and Talia Terwiske (Jasper, Ind./Dubois) teamed up to earn the 8-4 victory and their first collegiate wins.

Natalie Kurkova, Kristin Cassidy, Mariah Zumbrun and Gabrielle Lawrence each earned points in singles and doubles play to lead the Lancers to the victory. Grace improved to 2-4 on the season, while Trine opens 0-1.

The Thunder will host a pair of matches this Sunday, Sep. 14 on the Trine Tennis Courts. First up is an 11 a.m. match against Rose-Hulman, followed by a match against Olivet at 4 p.m.
