Thunder Split a Pair of Matches

ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine women's tennis team split a pair of matches Sunday at Angola Middle School, falling to Rose-Hulman 5-4 before defeating Olivet, 8-1, in the evening match.

Miranda Synesael (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) won both of her singles matches on the day to pick up her first collegiate victories. Fellow freshmen Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) and Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind.) also picked up the first singles victories of their Trine careers. Freshmen Talia Terwiske (Jasper, Ind./Dubois) and Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind.) combined for two doubles victories, leaving the duo unbeaten in three matches this season. The victory over Olivet ran Trine's season record to 1-2.

Rose-Hulman 5, Trine 4

The two teams split singles play, but the Engineers won two of three doubles matches to earn the victory.

Synesael, Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and Hatkevich earned singles victories to give Trine points in the no.'s 2, 3 and 6 singles flights. Mack is 2-0 on the season in singles matches after the win. Isabella Evans, Lauren Miller and Sydney Short gave RHIT their points in singles play.

Terwiske and Hatkevich took their doubles match by an 8-3 final for the Thunder, but RHIT won the other two matches on their way to the win.

Trine 8, Olivet 1

The Thunder commanded singles play with six wins, and added two doubles wins for good measure.

Synesael and Brennan each earned a pair of 6-0 victories. Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) added a three-set victory in the no. 1 flight. Pass picked up her first collegiate victory in the no. 4 court, while Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) and Allison Marley (New Carlisle, Ind./Prairie) also picked up victories. 

Terwiske/Hatkevich kept their unbeaten-streak going at no. 2 doubles, while  the pairing of Kaitlin Black (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) and Lexi Skeens (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) picked up their first victory of the season.

Maddy Drikakis and Lydia Drikakis picked up the win at no. 1 doubles for Olivet's lone point.

Trine returns to action next Saturday, Sep. 20 at Capital.
