ANGOLA, Ind.—The Trine women's tennis team blanked Bethel College on Friday afternoon, 7-0, at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.
At the No. 1 doubles spot, Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) and Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) paired up to defeat their opponents 9-8 after securing a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker. The Thunder also picked up victories by the second and third doubles teams.
In singles action, Kwaske won her fourth match of the season at the top spot by a score of 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 2 position, Mack won the first set 7-5 and was up 2-1 in the second before her opponent defaulted out of the match. Sophomore Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) downed Taryn Johnson, 6-2, 6-0 to pick up her sixth win of the season. Freshman Chelsea Ort (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) picked up her second straight win at the sixth spot by a 6-1, 6-0 mark. With the team victory secured, the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches were not played.
Trine improves to 5-4 with the win, while Bethel fell to 6-10.
The Thunder continues home action on Tuesday when it will play host to Adrian College. The first serve will be at 4 p.m.
