Women's Tennis Earns First MIAA Win

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's tennis team defeated Adrian, 7-2 Tuesday afternoon to earn the Thunder their first conference victory of the season.

Trine got off to a strong start by sweeping doubles play. The no. 1 tandem of Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) and Erin Kwaske (Jackson, Mich./Western) earned an 8-4 victory, as did Marissa German (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) and Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) in the no. 2 flight. Brennan and German have now won three-consecutive matches together. Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind./Edwardsburg) and Chelsea Ort (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) capped doubles play off with an 8-6 victory in the no. 3 flight.

Hatkevich prevailed in a hotly-contested match in the no. 5 singles court, winning in three sets. The freshman rallied after dropping the second set to earn an 11-9 winner in the tiebreaker to earn the hard-fought victory. Hatkevich is now 5-3 on the season.

Mack earned the most convincing victory by 6-0, 6-2 scores in the no. 2 singles flight. Kwaske and Ort each earned two-set victories in singles play as well. Ort is off to a strong start in her freshman campaign, with a 3-1 record to her credit so far this season.

Trine improved to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in MIAA matches with the victory. The Thunder have now won two-straight. Adrian falls to 5-3 overall, 1-1 in league matches.

Trine returns to action Wednesday, Apr. 8 at St. Mary's. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
