Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season with Victory

FREMONT, Ind.-- The Trine women's tennis team opened its fall season with a 7-2 victory over Concordia (Mich.) Saturday afternoon.

The Thunder swept doubles play and got singles victories from Lexi Mack (Temperance, Mich./Bedford), Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind./Edwardsburg), Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) and Theresa Magenheimer (Indianapolis, Ind./Hamilton Heights). Three Trine players were making their collegiate tennis debuts. The win was the first-career victory for new Thunder head coach Erin Kolar. Trine improved to 1-0 on the season, while Concordia is 0-2.

Mack and Kaitlin Black (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) took home the victory in the no. 1 doubles flight by an 8-6 final. Mack also started her senior season with a strong match in the no. 1 singles court with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Black pushed her opponent to three sets before falling in singles play.

Hatkevich and Pass teamed up for the no. 2 doubles victory, 8-2. Hatkevich also earned the victory at no. 2 singles, while Pass was victorious in the no. 3 court.

Kirstin Riise (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) and Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) combined for their first collegiate victory in the no. 3 doubles flight. The duo earned an 8-3 victory. Riise was playing in her first collegiate match as a freshman, while Davis was making her debut after playing several other sports during her time at Trine.

Magenheimer earned the no. 6 singles victory by a pair of 6-3 scores. Magenheimer was also making her collegiate debut as a freshman.

Trine returns to action Thursday, Sept. 17 with a 3:30 p.m. match at Bethel (Ind.).
