Thunder Dominate Concordia for First Spring Victory

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's tennis team earned a convincing 8-1 victory over Concordia (Mich.) to give the Thunder its first win of the spring season Tuesday evening.

The Thunder started things off on the right foot by sweeping doubles play. Top pairing Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind. / Edwardsburg) and Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan) dispatched their opponents handily by an 8-2 final. It was the first victory of the season for the duo, who have taken over as Trine's top doubles pairing in the spring season. Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) and Kaitlin Black (Crawfordsville, Ind. / Southmont) continued the team's success with an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 court.

Carlee Richardson (La Grange, Ind. / Lakeland) and Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet) rounded out the Thunder sweep in doubles as the duo earned the victory in the tiebreaker. After battling Alex Beall and Emily Neumeyer to an 8-8 draw, Richardson and Davis were able to prevail 7-3 to put Trine up 3-0 in the match.

Richardson picked up her first collegiate singles victory to provide one of the highlights for the Thunder in singles play. The sophomore won by scores of 6-1, 6-0 in her second-career match. Richardson joined the program prior to the spring season.

Brennan notched her first victory of the spring in the No. 2 singles flight. The sophomore earned 6-2, 6-1 winners to even her record in the No. 2 court.

Black continued a stretch of strong play at No. 4 singles. The junior extended her winning-streak to three matches with victories by scores of 6-3, 6-1.

Hatkevich and Pass rounded out the singles wins for Trine. Hatkevich rallied after dropping the second set to win the tiebreak for her third victory of the season. Pass improved to a team-best 5-2 with her victory.

Trine improved to 2-5 on the seaon with the win. Concordia fell to 1-10 overall.

The Thunder return to action Friday, Apr. 1 when they host Taylor University. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
