Thunder Get First Victory with Sweep of Earlham

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's tennis team got its first win of the season, sweeping Earlham 9-0 Sunday morning at Ryan Tennis Center.

Kirstin Riise (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth), Hannah Cowen (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and Abby Hoge (Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs) each picked up their first career singles victory for the Thunder. Cowen's win came in the No. 3 court as the freshman took down her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Riise followed with 6-0, 6-2 winners at No. 4 singles. Hoge rounded things out by winning each of her sets, 6-3.

Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan), Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) and Theresa Magenheimer (Indianapolis, Ind. / Hamilton Heights) each added their first singles victories of the season for Trine. Pass blanked her opponent in both sets, while Brennan and Magenheimer each held their opponent scoreless in the second set of their wins.

Brennan paired with Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind. / Penn) for their second-consecutive victory in doubles play. The duo won by an 8-0 score. Cowen paired with Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet) to add another 8-0 win in doubles play. Pass and Riise added an 8-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles court.

The victory gave the Thunder a positive result in its first regular-season match in Ryan Tennis Center. The facility was dedicated at Homecoming 2015 and was finished with resurfaced courts this past summer. This season is Trine's inaugural campaign calling Ryan Tennis Center home.

The Thunder return to action Thursday when they travel to Bethel for a non-conference match. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
