ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine women's tennis team edged past Heidelberg with a 5-4 victory Saturday afternoon in Keith E. Busse / Steel Dynamics Athletic Recreation Center.
The outcome was up for grabs going into the final match of the day. Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) was able to seal the victory for the Thunder at no. 6 singles. The freshman closed out a 6-0, 6-2 victory to remain undefeated. Braun is now off to a 5-0 start to her collegiate career.
Braun was also a part of a doubles victory in the no. 3 court. She teamed with Abby Hoge (Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs) to earn an 8-2 victory. The duo won their first doubles match of the season.
Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan) and Kirstin Riise (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) also combined on a doubles victory as the no. 2 Trine pairing. The duo earned their second consecutive win by a score of 8-2 to put the Thunder up 2-1 after doubles play.
Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) and Carlee Richardson (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) helped seal the victory in singles play. Pass won her second-straight match, 6-3, 6-0 at no. 3 singles. Richardson notched her first victory at no. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Trine improved to 2-8 on the season. Heidelberg's record dropped to 0-6.
The Thunder host St. Francis (Ind.) tomorrow at 1 p.m. The match is the final tuneup before conference play begins.
