Thunder Pick Up First Conference Victory

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Trine women's tennis team picked up its first MIAA victory of the season with a  6-3 win over Olivet Sunday afternoon at Harper Creek High School.

The Thunder opened things up with wins in two doubles matches. Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan) and Kirstin Riise (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) earned the 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. The duo picked up their first MIAA win as a pairing and third overall. Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) and Abby Hoge (Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs) matched the 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Hoge and Braun were also victorious in singles play. Hoge won her match at No. 5 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-2 to earn the second victory of her senior season. Braun continued her strong freshman campaign with a 6-0, 6-2 win. She improved to a team-best 9-4 in singles play.

Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) picked up a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Carlee Richardson (LaGrange, Ind. / Lakeland) rounded out Trine's winners with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles. Richardson's win clinched the match for the Thunder. The win was Richardson's first in conference play this year.

The win improved Trine to 3-15 overall and 1-6 in the MIAA. Olivet fell to 5-13 overall, 1-7 in conference matches.

The Thunder close out the season Wednesday, Apr. 26 with a match at Alma. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
