Thunder Close Season with Victory at Alma

ALMA, Mich. -- The Trine women's tennis team closed out its season with a 7-2 victory over Alma in MIAA-action Wednesday afternoon at the Superior Tennis Courts.

The Thunder opened things up by sweeping doubles play, including 9-8 victories in two courts. Madison Hatkevich (Granger, Ind. / Edwardsburg) and Kinnsey Pass (Lafayette, Ind. / Jefferson) earned the victory at No. 1 doubles by that score, including a 7-5 advantage in the tiebreak. Abby Hoge (Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs) and Kyra Braun (Portland, Ind. / Jay County) also won 9-8, capping things off with a 7-5 tiebreak.

Tarah Brennan (Allegan, Mich. / Allegan) and Kirstin Riise (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) rounded out the doubles winners. Brennan and Riise won their second consecutive match, earning the 8-3 victory for the first Thunder point of the day.

Brennan, Pass, Hoge and Braun continued their success with wins in singles play. Pass blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 in a dominating victory at No. 3 singles. Brennan added the win at No. 2 singles, 6-3. 6-3.

Hoge earned the victory in the final match of her senior season. Hoge won by scores of 6-0, 6-2. She picked up her third win of the season.

Braun closed out her freshman campaign victoriously with her 10th win of the season. Braun took the first set, 6-1, before edging her opponent 7-6 to close out the win. She concluded her debut season with a team-best 10-4 record.

Trine concluded its season 4-15 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. The Thunder placed seventh in the conference. Alma fell to 3-13 overall and 0-7 in conference matches.
